South Korea - Import & Export Regulatory Guide

South Korea operates a highly automated customs regime through the Korea Customs Service (KCS) and the UNI-PASS single window. Export controls sit with MOTIE and the Strategic Trade Institute of Korea (KOSTI). Korea's dense FTA network (with US, EU, UK, ASEAN, CPTPP-pending, RCEP) makes origin discipline critical.

Frequently asked questions (2)

How does Korea's KC mark differ from CE?

KC (Korea Certification) is Korea's unified conformity mark covering electrical safety, EMC, telecom (RRA), children's products, gas appliances and more. Unlike CE self-declaration, most KC schemes require in-country testing by RRA/KTC/KTL-accredited labs and factory audits, then annual maintenance.

What is K-REACH and who registers?

The Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals requires domestic manufacturers or importers of chemicals ≥1 tonne/year to register with NIER via K-BASIS. Foreign manufacturers appoint an Only Representative. Existing substances have staggered deadlines to 2030 by tonnage band.
